Professional Development Plan

1. What are your learning objectives for your development as a coach as you enter this eight-month Coaching Certification Program? Please create a list of the most important competencies and abilities you are targeting for your development.

6-25 Darn sure:  confident, methods are sufficient to address the clients are capable

6-25 Boundaries - with individual or with problem - how to integrate.

a)  to further understand myself as coach (look at Hudson 6 areas)

  • Develop a range of feelings. What are the feelings i have that make me small? How strong are they? What triggers them? Who? When? Why? What are the potential sources/causes?

  • Where do I have passions that drive my energies? How strong are they? What triggers them? Who? When? Why? What are the potential sources/causes?

  • To be able to apply my best self, a natural way of being/listening...Develop my signature presence.

  • To be able to adapt my application depending upon the needs of the client.

  • To be able to separate my feelings from the feelings of the client enabling an empathic stance. and appropriate boundaries.

  • To learn how my somatic presence affects my client, and thereby modify as needed for the situation. - 6-25 look to SLG as a means (think of it as a lab for you). Don't step too far back.. that you lose engagement.

  • To bring Backbone to my conversations, to challenge my client appropriately to help him/her meet their goals. 6-25 But to do so with humility rather than directness...It's not about me.

b)  to understand and practice a competent coaching framework that facilitates learning for my client and provides me with enough structure to reflect and learn.

  • to use the 5 stage Hudson Coaching framework

  • to log my progress with my clients against that framework.

c)  to develop a network of relationships to serve as reference for learning and referrals

d)  to lean into my passions as a coach and invigorate a life-long journey to mastery

2. If your organization is sponsoring and supporting your attendance in this program, please engage in a conversation with your boss/sponsor to determine what his/her goals and hopes might be for you as a result of attending this intensive coaching program.

a)  Provide Greg with the tools to be more effective in dealing with Complex cross organizational issues.

6-25 How about this as it relates to SLG?  does slg contribute to your needs here?

b)  To use the coaching "lead from behind" approach to influence by asking the right questions.

c)  To contribute to Greg's journey and self discovery.

4. One of the completion requirements is: “To attend, participate in, and complete three consecutive CITS.” Specific learning objectives I seek from these CITS:

CIT 1

What are your strongest talents and handicaps as you embark on Coaching Certification?

  1. I can abstract big ideas very quickly

  2. I am introspective

  3. I learn quickly

  4. I am creative (though I need to trust the proven methods)

  5. I like having goals

  6. I naturally fence sit, and play devils advocate.

  7. I, too, am transforming

How are you most likely to support and sabotage your learning while in this program?

  1. I procrastinate

  2. I read slowly

  3. I am shy/reserved about my skills as a coach

  4. I am introspective though sometimes I just need to act

  5. I like learning tools as a way of making progress (Squarespace, AgileZen, etc)

  6. Too many new things going on at once (BIL, EE, Relations, Coaching, Cars, transformation)

You will be required to engage in work with a professional coach once this program begins.  What three potential areas/issues in your life would you pursue with a coach?

  1. Deciding if I want to be married or not?

  2. Learning to be comfortable with conflict and interrupting

  3. Increase the quality of my relationship with my kids

  4. Financial planning

CIT2

Has your sense of purpose changed, as you've grown older or entered a new decade?

How do you manage a sense of balance in your own life?

Are there triggers that remind you when you've reached an "out of balance" place?

Are you noticing shifts in your awareness of yourself as a coach?

Have you begun to develop a practice for preparing yourself for coaching sessions, taking time to get yourself present for the session?

CIT3

Identify the areas that are most challenging to "unlearn"

create 3 scenarios for the next 5-10 years of your life

what parts of planning are most difficult for you?

What do you notice about the obstacles that surface when you begin to develop a new and inspired plan for your next chapter?

5. To participate actively in a SLG that you will be in throughout Hudson's Coaching Certification program. Specific learning outcomes I seek with my small group include:

a)  coaching techniques that do/do not work

b)  practicing self as coach vectors (Presence, Empathic Stance, Range of Feelings, Boundary Awareness, Somatic Awareness, Courage to Challenge)

c)  to nurture & challenge my colleagues

d)  to allow myself to be nurtured and challenged by my colleagues

6. To complete all required readings and be able to apply the knowledge learned to the practice of coaching. My concentration will be in the areas of:

Presence - I am so curious about the state of consciousness that allows me to enter the state of "being" .  I have experienced a heightened sense of peace and awareness, a comfort with being truly open and myself.  I want to learn how to create this space in multiple conditions (including in environments of high stress), and be able to bring a client with me.

7. To receive 15 hours of coaching from recognized professional coaches. This is how I will arrange it:

I have currently shared with Toni my interests in being coached.  I will follow up with the recommended coaches to determine the fit for me.  Potential Coaches:

6-25 Kim Woodward, Yvonne Ingalls, Kelly Holm, Scott Harrison, William Harrison - Need to follow up with Toni to determine if she has another recommendation.

HP also, has a stable of internal coaches.  I will work with Shawna Corden to arrange for Coaching relationship.  In this way, I will be socialized to the HP community and practice.

8. To provide 50 hours of professional coaching with individuals and groups outside of the training program. This is how I will arrange it:

a) Internal Coaching (self directed):  I have already begun to connect with clients and potential clients to determine fit and interest.

b) Internal Coaching (HP directed): To work Shawna Corden and the internal HP coaching network to identify clients.

c) External Coaching:  I want to identify a local non-profit that could make use of my skills and provide for a fertile learning environment outside of the safety of HP.

9. Following the first CIT, make a list of your current learning edges along with your plans for developing your skills in the aforementioned areas. Make sure to update this list following the second CIT.

From my Enneagram investigation, the following growth areas will help me overcome my traditional weaknesses.

  • Recognize your impulsiveness, and get in the habit of observing your impulses rather than giving in to them. The more you can resist acting out your impulses, the more you will be able to focus on what is really good for you.

  • Always remember that your feelings are telling you something about yourself as you are at this particular moment, not necessarily more than that.

  • Even if you start small, commit yourself to doing something that will bring out the best in you.

  • Instead of spending time imagining your life and relationships, begin to live them.

  • 6-25 Boundaries - Separate

  • 6-25 Potency -
