Prey

It is human to yearn. To want for something just out of reach. Prey is such a fantastic word for this yearning and the double edged nature. Are we the verb…or the noun?

A cat bays tonight
Waking me
from the nether
Too close
outside my window
I squeeze my lids together.

Go away
I whisper...
but too soon
it returns.
Keeping me from my peace,
It has needs,
and so it yearns

The long night endures
Restlessness does offend
Sleep
finds no solace.
Won't someone else attend?

In time,
dawn signals
life to another day
Optimism greets the sunlight,
today I'll make my way.

The songs of birds
ring in,
mind and soul
are meeting..
the sound
of one hand clapping
reminds
that peace is fleeting

For upon the door step
lays a gift.
Eyes lost
to day’s dark sleep
A tired robin struggles
labored breathes without a peep.
