Pain of Glass
A good friend, David shared the synchronicity of the several ways birds had shown up in his life in the prior couple days. From a wounded bird on the street, to a bird trapped in the cabin we shared. We’ve all witnessed the panic in a bird as it tries to escape a closed window. At times, we are all birds in similarly vulnerable situations. David aided these birds, and he nurtured me as I explored my own vulnerability. I love how this poem plays with the notions of Pane and Pain. Thank you David!
My bird like my spirit
Is stuck in this room
Flap, flap hit the window
A feeling of sheer doom
But a stranger is watching
And with nothing to lose
He gathers my wings
And invites me to move
Two steps on the ground
First one and then two
And next I am free
to the sky that I flew
I cheep as I leave
I join the wide air
Now I sing and I play
With new friends that I care
Thank you my friend
For setting me free
For Behind a pain of glass
We’re not meant to be
Now let lose yourself
You’ve got nothing to lose
Flap, flap, bang, bang
The panes just a ruse
