Recessed

Darkness and light. Shadow and self. There is nothing new in the topic, only my reflection upon it. It is not unusual to be party to a struggle inside my head. At times, we rely upon our friends to see what can’t be seen. And to accept the clawing at our vulnerability. Wrestling with self doubt and winning.

In darkness and light
Seen or unseen, we are mine
You may not like our lot
But I’ll tell you it’s fine.

I will honor your presence
I commit to you this day
You may try to destroy me,
don’t expect me to obey

You will hide when I find you
And I’ll smile when you do
But I’m not alone,
And I’m clever too
I have others to find you
I will love when they do

For my life is our life
And there’s no need to hide
When there’s OUR purpose
There are no rules to abide.

I won’t attach myself to you
Like you’re all that I’ve got
For today we are something
And tomorrow we’re not

To suggest that you’re mine
Is to honor us both
But we are one and not two
And in light there is growth

So give up your ruse
And meet me this day
For you may push me around
I’m not going away
