Coaching Feedback (Includes written feedback provided during the CIT Sessions, Taped Reviews from External Mentor Coach feedback forms, and client feedback forms)
Tape Review #1 (You will only need to include the Three Taped Sessions reviewed over the phone with a mentor coach.)
Reviewer: Toni McLean
Development Goals:
Simpler more thoughtful Questions
Get deeper background on Emad, not about me...it's about him going deeper
Clearer understanding of done...
Learnings/Take-aways:
My feed back from Toni was pretty positive. Good working alliance. Good ability to maintain coaching focus. Good thoughtful questions.
Opportunities - Pacing. Emad rambled for a long period, and I let him go. Perhaps he needs to be aware that his communication approach could wear down his listener. Did I see/hear this? no, but it is insightful. How are my feelings oabout the energy of a conversation reflected?
Sense of humor! Learn how to take your hands out of your pocket in order to allow the client the freedom to laugh and be vulnerable.
Value of the experience:
I can do this! So many people have provided me with support in my choice to do this work. hmmm. I need to trust them and myself!
Tape Review #2 (You will only need to include the Three Taped Sessions reviewed over the phone with a mentor coach.)
Reviewer: Kathleen Stinnett
Development Goals:
1. Be conscious of your shadow side! While my insights into my own mid-life journey provide me with understanding and empathy...I need to be careful that the focus stays on the client. How did it sound?
2. Slow down the questioning - Allow the client to sit with the challenge of the first question.
3. Understand my feelings of frustration while coaching. Use it to drive wonder and inquiry rather than advocacy.
Learnings/Take-aways:
1) My client needs to create the wave of energy for the conversation. When I am creating the energy, then i get out in front. My POV gets in the way of being able to see my clients POV. Evenworse, my POV can challenge my client to a level that makes him feel insufficient and this shuts down his own awareness and growth.
2) I need to continue to build emotional capacity and peace/centeredness for myself to avoid my issues from surfacing during a session. Perhaps I need to be more choiceful of the clients and their issues while i'm struggling with my own. I finally understand Starla's comment of "I couldn't have done this a couple years ago." Our lives and our issues are always with us, if we are not aware of how they affect us...they most certainly will.
3) Make sure to get a clear contract. Without the client having a clear sense of where they are headed, you will meander.
Value of the experience: Very worthwhile and humbling. I have strengths that naturally come to my practice, but I also have weaknesses. I need to stay attentive of my weaknesses! Set goals for my sessions that cause me to be attentive to the clients energy, rather than seeking to become attached to an outcome. Be attached to the prwesence with the client.
